Dr. Jerry Vanek’s medical career is devoted to sled dogs, and it has borne him around the world to 15 countries on 5 continents, from Norway to South Africa to South America to Antarctica and across North America from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific. He has served as a Chief or Trail Veterinarian on 128 races and 6 expeditions, and he has presented 373 lectures on sled dogs and sports medicine to veterinarians, mushers, students, and the public. His many other roles have included race marshal, trail boss, author, editor, musher, and handler. His veterinary education has been just as diverse, ranging from parasitology to physiotherapy to epidemiology to chiropractic. Dr. Vanek has been a regular participant at the Slädhudklubb Symposium since 2011.
