Leegaard family

Leegard Family

Laila and Roger Leegaard.

We started with dog mushing early 1970thies. First with Siberian Husky, later Alaskan Huskies and German Shorthaired Pointers, and since 1987 with crossbreed Hounds, Scandinavian Hounds.

Both of us have been mushing sled dogs in all categories of dogsledsport; Nordic style, Sprint, Long Distance, Mid. distance/Stage Stop Races, in Scandinavia, Alaska and Europe. When we stopped, after 30 years of mushing, we have joined and been a part of arrangement for Sled Dog Sports as Race Judges, Race Marshal and Race Coordinators in all disiplines (Norwegian Championships Sprint races, Norway Trail Stage Stop Race, AlpenTrail, Femundløpet Long distance, Dryland and more). We have also entered as board members in the lokal clubs and the Norwegian Sled Dog  Racing Assosiation, where Laila is leader for the Sled Dog divition of today.  We are also engaged in the staff for 2025 World Championship in Røros.

We have the last years joined the «next generation» of Leegaard family by sharing our experiences in the complexity of the sport, by dogs, breeding, feeding, training and racing with them, working their way up from beginners to top level mushers the last years.

Our earlier daily profession: Laila  worked as a teacher and Roger as engineer.

Maren Leegaard, 21 year old, lives in Vestfold, Norway.
With her 9 hounds she train to compete in sprint 4 & 6 dog class, dryland racing and on snow. She studies sports, nutrition and health and is soon ready with a bachelor as sports pedagogue.
